 Delhi tops in the list of Hospitality Index

Global hospitality chain Airbnb announced that New Delhi and Maharashtra have been recognised as the most hospitable city and state respectively, according to its Hospitality Index.As per the index, the most hospitable states were Maharashtra, Goa, Delhi, Karnataka and Kerala.New Delhi led the charts as the most hospitable city in the country, followed closely by Jaipur, Cochin and Mumbai

TRAI suggests access points for Wi-Fi

TRAI has proposed the concept of Public Data Office Providers, aimed at enhancing Wi-Fi connectivity and cutting internet costs by up to 90%.TRAI recommended an ambitious model of a public Wi-Fi grid that also aims to push broadband proliferation in the country.The grid or the mesh conceptualised by TRAI entails multiple providers coming together on one platform.

“Van Dhan Vikas Kendra” at Bijapur launched

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs has approved establishment of the first multipurpose “Van Dhan Vikas Kendra” on the pilot basis for establishment in Bijapur  District of Chhattisgarh.The Kendra will provide skill and capacity building training and setting up of primary processing facility.The Kendra will have processing facility for Tamarind brick making & Mahua flower storage facility.

RBI defered Ind-AS adoption by 1 year

The Reserve Bank of India has deferred the adoption of ‘Indian Accounting Standards’ (Ind AS) by banks, for a year, due to the unpreparedness of banks to migrate to the new accounting system.The earlier deadline for banks to switch to the Ind AS was from 1 April 2018.Ind AS is a global accounting practice that lenders are mandated to adopt that may lead to initial credit losses.

CBDT facilitates seamless tax payment

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) released a one-page simplified Income Tax Returns Form-1 ‘Sahaj’ for the assessment year 2018-19.It can be filed by an individual having income up to Rs.50 lakh and who is receiving income from salary, one house property/other income such as interest.This initiative benefited around 3 crore taxpayers, who filed their return in this simplified Form.

Sanjeev Nautiyal is the MD & CEO of SBI Life

SBI Life Insurance Company Limited appointed Sanjeev Nautiyal as its new MD and CEO.Sanjeev Nautiyal started his career with State Bank of India in 1985 as a probationary officer in bank’s Lucknow circle.In the immediately preceding assignment, he was the Chief General Manager of the bank’s Ahmedabad circle.He is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers (C.A.I.I.B).

Weightlifter Deepak Lather got bronze medal

Indian weightlifter Deepak Lather won the bronze medal in the men’s 69 kg category on the Day 2 of the Commonwealth Games.Gareth Evans of Wales claimed gold medal while Sri Lanka’s Indika won the silver medal.India till now has four medals at the Gold Coast Games and all four have come from weightlifting.

RBI bars banks from crypto services

RBI directed all regulated entities including banks not to provide services to businesses dealing in virtual currencies like bitcoins, so as to protect consumers and check money laundering.The RBI asked entities, which are already into such services to stop providing this kind of services within three months.The RBI has directed all payment system operators to store all data within India.

RBI switches back to GDP model

The RBI switched back to the gross domestic product (GDP)-based measure to offer its growth estimates from the gross value added (GVA) methodology.The Government had started analysing growth estimates using GVA methodology from January 2015 and had also changed the base year to 2018 from January.The GDP model gives the picture from the consumers’ side or demand perspective.

RBI keeps interest rates unchanged

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on 5th April kept the repo rate and reverse repo rate unchanged at 6 percent and 5.75 percent respectively.The real Gross Domestic Product growth in FY19 is seen at 7.4 percent as against 6.6 percent in FY18.The RBI revised CPI inflation projection for 2018-19 to 4.7-5.1% in the first half of the financial year and 4.4% in the second half.

Subrata will be Ambassador of India to Serbia

Subrata Bhattacharjee has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Serbia.Subrata Bhattacharjee is a 1989 batch Indian Foreign Service officer.He is currently the Joint Secretary in Ministry of External Affairs.

RBI decides to set up Data Sciences Lab

Reserve Bank of India has decided to set up Data Sciences Lab to improve its forecasting, surveillance and early warning detection abilities which will aid policy formulation.RBI said the lab will comprise experts and budding analysts, who are trained in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Statistics, Economics, Econometrics and Finance.The unit will become operational by December 2018.

PM to inaugurate International Energy Forum

India will host the 16th International Energy Forum (IEF) Ministerial Meeting from 10-12th April 2018 in New Delhi.The biennial IEF Ministerial Meetings are the world’s largest gathering of Energy Ministers who engage in a dialogue on global energy issues.The IEF is an inter-governmental arrangement set up in 1991, based in Riyadh.There are 72 member countries of IEF, including India.

Ministry of Coal launched UTTAM APP

Ministry of Coal launched ‘UTTAM App’ for Coal Quality Monitoring.UTTAM stands for – Unlocking Transparency by Third Party Assessment of Mined Coal (uttam.coalindia.in).The Ministry of Coal and Coal India Limited (CIL) developed UTTAM, aims to provide an App for all citizens and coal consumers to monitor the process of Third Party Sampling of coal across CIL subsidiaries.

BHEL commissions hydro-electric project

The Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) successfully commissioned the 330 MW Kishanganga Hydro-Electric Project in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).The project is located on the river Kishanganga, a tributary of the river Jhelum, in Bandipora district of J&K.In the state of J&K, BHEL commissioned 33 hydro sets with a capacity of 1,477 MW.1st and 2nd units of HEP were commissioned in March.

India won Women Handball Championship

India defeated Bangladesh to win the fifth South East Asian Women Handball Championship at Lucknow.A total of five countries participated in the tournament.While Nepal finished as runner-ups in the five-country tournament, Bangladesh settled for the third spot and a bronze medal.

Sanjita Chanu won gold medal at CWG 2018

Weightlifter Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu won India its second gold medal at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games by outshining in the women’s 53 kg category event.She set a new record in the game by lifting a total of 192 kgs which includes 84 kgs in a snatch and 108 kgs in clean and jerk.Papua New Guinea got the silver medal while Canada won the bronze medal.

FIEO, PayPal sign MoU to empower SMEs

Digital payments platform, PayPal, and the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO), an apex international trade promotion organisation, announced a partnership to promote exports.PayPal will work with FIEO to educate small and medium enterprises (SMEs) on how to leverage global opportunities.The MoU will focus on training Indian SMEs in various aspects of exports.

Delhi-Pathankot flight under UDAN scheme

Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu inaugurated the first flight from Delhi to Pathankot at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.Pathankot airport was opened by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to improve regional connectivity as per the UDAN Scheme.Under UDAN, air connectivity is provided to unserved and underserved airports at a subsidized fare.
